Cal. 44. S# 11786. Bbl. 7 1/2" rnd. in standard configuration w/ oct. lug, 1-line New York address, "Colts Patent" & sm. "US" on the left side of frame. Matching S#s found on bbl., frame, backstrap, trigger guard, loading arm, cyl., arbor & wedge. The grips are also matching numbered, 1786 inked in backstrap channel. This is an honest survivor made in 1851 which appears completely original w/ traces of finish. CONDITION: very good overall. Iron is mottled gray/plum patina w/ pitting, crisp markings, traces of finish in protected areas. Cyl. retains about 25% of dragoon fight rolled scene. Backstrap & triggerguard cleaned & toned to light mustard patina, grips have hand worn patina, sm. chip to left inner toe. Mechanically fine w/ crisp rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Formerly of the Collection of James B. Taylor. (01-28980/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-6,000.
